Air Fryer vs Halogen Oven.

  • Ah, it seems as tho' halogen loses out to A-F pretty much on everything.
I currently use a halogen as my only oven, but have been considering an Air Fryer. Not sure if you can cook things like a frozen pizza in the drawers, though.

    Hi all.
Already have a basic 4 litre air fryer, and it's great - love it. Son is just back from Uni, and the twit has become a Vegan - so won't use our air fryer as it's obviously tainted... Sigh.
I'm considering a second A-F for him only to use, but have seen halogen ovens too which would appear to do a similarish job, tho' using a halogen lamp instead of a conventional element.
Q - do they have fans in them too, or is it just radiated heat from the lamp?
    How do they compare?
There are plenty of reviews of both out there and it's probably easiest to just say they are different. In many respects air friers are "better" but halogen can be notably larger which means if you do want to cook a lot it can then counter the longer cooking times and energy use by doing it all in 1 rather than two batches.

I'm guessing he doesn't eat out at all or only goes to purely vegan restaurants? Whilst a mixed restaurant should be using different griddles etc for the meat dishes not all do and even those that do its more of a per day thing not necessary at all times.

Rather than buying a whole new device could you not just get new draws for yours so you have yours, he has his? May be possible to buy them from the manufacturer or buy a non-functional one from eBay just for the draws

For Pizza, you'd have to slice it up first to fit in the pan, perhaps a half-pizza at a time! But each section would be done in no time at all. And yummy, I bet.
I cooked for me and wife tonight. A thick bed of chunky-chopped carrots, 'wedgied' potatoes and onion and lots of garlic, drizzled in olive oil and chucked into t'pan, and given around 8 minutes to start getting roasting (after being primed by a couple of minutes in the 'wave). Chicken thigh fillets placed on top, with the potatoes moved up to join them. More oil and pepper. 15 minutes-ish one side, and then turn for another 10, adding chopped peppers. Final 2 minutes with sliced extra-mature cheddar melted on top. One pan, two plates, yummy.

Yes, that was the single biggest win for the Halogen - the extra size. On all other points, the AF has it.
He cooks himself, and eats out at mixed restaurants. I suspect it's easier to ignore the possible 'contamination' when you aren't faced with it!
Yes, your (and Grumb's) idea of a separate pan would be ideal, but I'm struggling to find one for the model I have. But will keep on looking. Meanwhile he produces more than twice the washing-up we do...

    Thanks

Seems like hassle (and mess) cutting a frozen pizza up to cook it in 2 stages, compared to 12-15 minutes in the halogen.

Your recipe sounds tasty (apart from the onion) but most days I just can't be bothered to cook properly just for myself, I am more of a southern fried chicken steak with frozen mash, peas and carrots or a jacket spud type of guy. Much quicker prep time lol.
