Is that the same thing as a Partnership Card? If so JL don't charge cash advance fees for currency purchases made from John Lewis made with a Partnership Card.

Didn't JL change their cards completely a few months back?  Which might mean all the T&Cs changed too??  So I'd be checking those very carefully rather than take someone's word here.

Yes it is the new JL Partnership card, however Newday who administer the card are not clear on their website, so which is right, first paragraph or second or am I being dumb, only wanted use card for the points.

Can I purchase foreign currency or travellers cheques using my card?

Yes, however please be aware that these are treated as a cash transaction. There is a cash fee of 3% of the amount of the transaction (at least £3.00) for all cash transactions made in the UK or abroad. Interest is charged from the date the transaction is added to your account even if you pay off your standard balance in full and on time every month.

When you purchase John Lewis Foreign Currency with your Partnership Card there are no cash advance fees or credit card transaction charges. For more information visit johnlewisfinance.com/currency

    Both can be true.
Seems to be that you will normally be charged if you buy currency on a JL Partnership Card but you won't be charged if you use the JL Partnership Card to pay for a transaction via JL's own foreign exchange service.
    Edited for clarity.

If you buy foreign currency on the card then you pay a fee, if you buy it using JL foreign currency service the fees are waived.

Agreed, that's what I meant, but I've edited my post to make it clear that using the JLP card to buy currency 'in house' doesn't seem to attract the fee.

Thanks everyone I think I will just use EuroChange instead as they offer a better rate using my debit card
