Do we receive confirmation/receipt/agreement when submitting IHT400

We are ready to send off IHT400 and all associated sub forms (IHT421, IHT435 etc) tomorrow by recorded delivery, then we send off probate application 20 days after.

do we get any confirmation of receipt or even agreement there’s no IHT to pay from HMRC?  Or do we assume it’s been accepted?

I know probate you can’t chase up for 16 weeks, but was wondering about IHT400?

Nope - you send it off and if you don't hear anything then you're good to go for the probate application

Just be aware that your IHT forms will go to a Royal Mail sorting centre in Wolverhampton rather than HMRC. They are then scanned and sent to HMRC.

It's terrible service really, absolutely no acknowledgement of receipt, you have to rely on looking up your tracking number. Our first acknowledgement was their demand for a six figure sum (which we  expected). Naturally they didn't hang around asking for that which is clearly where their resources are. 

The 20 days is 20 working days before applying for probate so four weeks. We did probate online and they acknowledged receipt of the will very quickly but we now join the endless probate queue.

Thank you both.  yes we are planning on doing probate online to hopefully speed things up a little (he says, crossing his fingers).  Seen times quoted anywhere between several weeks and several (or more) months.
IHT400 has been a headache, but think we've cracked it.  The probate form looks a walk in the park in comparison!
