EonNext to Octopus
Options
This is probably a stupid question. If I switch from eon next standard variable tariff to Octopus standard variable tariff, the tarrif should be exactly the same right?
I'm looking at the quote for octopus and comparing it to the eon next tariff and it's showing as slightly more expensive with Octopus. Both are VAT inclusive DD rates.
When I looked at the regional tariff chart on MSE, it looks like Eon next is currently billing me on the 'Midlands' tariff while Octopus is quoting me on the 'North Wales & Mersey' tariff.
What am I missing, can the same full postcode be in two different energy regions depending on the supplier?

Octopus flexible SC is 4% less than Eon Next variable tariff, however Eon Next fixed 12 month v 4 unit rates and SC are both cheaper than Octopus flexible with no exit fees if subsequently change to another Eon Next tariff.3 -
I live in SY13 which is in the NW and Mersey DNO region.
Edit: You can check your DNO operator here

Scottish Power Energy Networks looks after NW and Mersey customers1 -
The gas and electricity distribution network areas are different.Look at the S-number on your electricity bill, specifically the leftmost box in the lower row. 13 is Merseyside and North Wales, 14 is West Midlands.3

Thanks all, that's very helpful.
The electricity meter number starts with 14 so that's West Midlands / Midlands (they seem to be used interchangeably).
When I checked my postcode on the link that MSE suggested https://www.energybrokers.co.uk/electricity/pes-areas/search , it again said Midlands.
So I guess the Octopus quote is just erroneously showing me the North Wales & Mersey rates for whatever reason and should revert to the correct Midlands price cap rate if I switch to their standard variable rate.
I'll check out the eon next fixed rate too, I didn't know they had any that was cheaper!1 -
A quick update - definitely something wrong with how Octopus reads my post-code.
When I try to proceed to accept the post-code based quote and select my address, it says my post-code has changed and sends me back to the start of the process. I guess it's at that point that the system recognises that it's giving me the North Wales tariff when it should be Midlands.
I'll give them a call on Monday and see if they can sort it out over the phone. 👍0
