One driver - two cars?

Many thanks for that.daivid said:As you have found out no claims can be a bit of a red herring. When first starting out it seemed to have a big impact: my premiums dropped by about a 3rd at each of the 1st two renewals, after year 4 I think I'd more or less hit rock bottom, and additional no claims counted for very little. Recently I got quotes for a second car, a classic covering low mileage, without any no claims to apply I was offered fully comp for £68. There is absolutely no way an insurer would cover me for 90% less than that even if I used my no claims from the every day car.
I think I’d been a little misdirected because I simply hadn’t asked my insurers the right question. What I should have said is “how much would my premium be if I bought a second car insured in my name and it will be a new “x” for illustration purposes - rather than - as I did - “can I still get my maximum ncd on it”.
I was a bit surprised by the issue because I always thought of the NCD being a reflection of my claims history and so if I only drive one car at a time then in my faulty logic each car I buy that I’m the driver of should carry the same risk and therefore NCD. It isn’t the car but me that has the great claims record!
That’s why these fora are so great because you can ask a question that you think you know the answer too but be be offered wisdom and experience that helps you around it.
