Lease insurance

Hi, we've got a lease on a Hyundai Kona Electric. Great car, no complaints. One of the stipulations of the lease is that any repairs need to be completed using original parts. Does this mean I need specific insurance, such as that provided by Original, or can I use a cheaper more standard policy and stipulate original parts if the situation arises?

Any guidance very welcome, thanks.

Depends what you mean by "repairs".  If you're talking about bodywork damage, then any standard insurance policy should be fine - they'll use a professional body-shop who will repair any damage to a professional standard.  And a reputable body-shop would use OEM parts, should they need to replace any that were damaged in the accident.
But if you're talking about just mechanical components, particularly wear & tear items, then this may be slightly different.  Replacement brake discs/pads, for instance, wouldn't be covered by insurance anyway.  So as far as it goes, you'd be free to use any genuine VAT-registered garage, and just make sure they fit genuine OEM parts - rather than a cheaper brand.
Unless, that is, there's a stipulation in your lease agreement that mechanical repairs must be done by a Hyundai dealer - in which case you have little choice in the matter.

Go for an insurance that doesn't charge extra for you using your own garage and just make sure you opt to use a Hyundai. Claims may be a bit slower but you avoid them using non-genuine parts. Only really relevant in accidents that cause mechanical damage and not just bodywork.
