When does your Hmrc account update for the previous tax year?

I’m unable to do DH’s self assessment yet for 22-23 ( unemployed/employed then self employed) because I can’t see all the relevant figures and he has no p60 due to finishing PAYE last Sept, just the p45 - I’ve managed to find out how much NI he paid on hmrc as that amount needs putting down.
There are no details to say if he paid any tax on £680 of Job seekers he got before working again,  nor are there any received amounts of JSA showing 🤷‍♀️ it’s blank.
The amount of employment income shown is also different to his p45 , it’s £1000 less.  He worked via an umbrella so his payslips are indecipherable but his p45 must be right.
According to the accounting software, he’s owed £1200 tax refund.
He paid nigh on £2k tax on total income of £15800,  with a tax code of 1382M and has profits of £2260.
He also apparently owed £66 from the 21-22 tax year,  according to a November 22 letter so I’m unsure whether to include that on the form? I put it on the accounts software.
I really don’t want to leave it till November, if that’s how long it takes them to update but do I really have a choice?

  • On the first point - NI is never entered anywhere on a self-assessment form.

It was a long time ago but I seem to recall doing my ex's self-employed NICS through her Self Assessment.

I'm not sure what you are waiting to update but unless he was a very high earner NI from an employment is irrelevant as far as Self Assessment is concerned.

DWP never deduct tax from Jobseeker's Allowance however he may have received a tax refund from DWP which would need to be entered in the return.

The £66 would only need to be included on his  2022-23 Self Assessment return if it was being collected via his 2022-23 tax code.  If it wasn't then it doesn't get entered on that tax return.

Correct - but NIC is still not entered anywhere on a tax return and, therefore, knowing what NIC has been paid is not relevant.

It states on the employment form  SA102 ‘to calculate class 4 liability,   give details of class 1 NI from p60’ .  So I assumed that the £1180 NI contributions goes in the box?
It’s irrelevant as no class 4 are due, but still.
On the accompanying notes it doesn’t even mention that box!
The  tax underpayment pertains to 21-22,  the form does ask about previous years, which is where I put the £66, there is currently nothing showing on his account apart from the November 22 message about the £66 to be collected by PAYE,

    His p45 tax code was 1177L,   It’s now 1381M.
His ‘current position’  on the hmrc account says Nothing to pay, so presumably the £66 was collected.

I just can’t understand why the employment income shown is wrong,  they must have received the P45 info,  unless they are just so far behind ( which I can believe due to the delay in getting  specified adult Ni credits)
The amount is wrong by £1000 and the employment dates are wrong by a week short too.

An SA102 is attached - can you advise as to which box you mean?

Class 4 NIC is only payable by the self-employed. I can only repeat - NIC of whatever class is never to be entered on any Self Assessment form.

I’ve just realised that it’s my freeagent software asking for this info when getting ready to file - I assumed it was also on the 102 🙄   Omitting the figure doesn’t change the final calculation.
    Thanks for your patience

Not a problem - the main thing is to complete the form correctly.
