Personally I would never give up my TV licence as I believe it offers good value especially with iplayer. There again I have never subscribed to any subscription services at all. I am not a lover of sport and rarely watch films. I find iplayer, ITV Hub , Channel 4 and 5 live and catch up services offer me all I need.

Well done on staying under the overdraft limit and hope it stays that way until Friday.
I personally think the TV licence is worth it for the catch up and on demand services you can get in addition to freeview.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. In some very good news, the largest card we have (with 0% rate having finished so currently at 22%), is directly through husband's bank (of over 20 years!) so i suggested he contact them to see what his options are, bearing in mind his time as a customer etc. Well and truly forcing our heads out of the sand - and they have frozen the interest for as long as he isn't spending on it (we have cut them up so no possibility of that!), plus changed his account from one he was paying for to one which actually gives cashback!
Facing these things head on really does help doesn't it!
Also, I was on a SIM only phone contract but somehow still paying £25/month - have now changed to £7.95/month. Lots of little wins this weekend!5 -
Another update, using this like a diary when I probably shouldn't!
I have a full spreadsheet with every penny accounted for now, we started the end of June at £16,527.38 and have already reduced to £15,161.45 as at today
Long old way to go, likely two years, but we'll keep plugging away and I feel so much more in control. These forums are an absolute godsend!
Have made two other small adjustments:
Fixed for a year with our current energy providers as the deal they offered is lower than the cap, and the certainty for the next year against our budget felt like a good option.
Have also reduced B&C insurance from £36.99 / month to £18.24 / month. Turns out I hadn't looked at it since 2019 and it had been autorenewing.1 -
It's a good idea to keep a diary on here - you can ask an admin to move your thread to the debt free diaries section.Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline.
