It can't go to a closing date now as your offer has been verbally accepted. It has skipped the whole process of notes of interest and then closing date as they have accepted your offer. This is very common nowadays and is what happened during both my house sales.
the offer should still be accepted  in writing

Until missives are signed and exchanged the sale is not final and either party can opt out.

Son had an offer accepted verbally and the next day was told the seller had had a higher offer and did they wish to go higher.

    They did not.

Was this in Scotland? If not, its irrelevant to this thread.

My experience is solicitors take a long time to confirm anything in writing but are happy to speak to you on the phone.

we are just selling and have an offer which I have talked through with my solicitor and confirmed we are accepting it and our solicitor has verbally confirmed to the buyers solicitor we are accepting the offer.  Now he will type up the paperwork and send it.

Completion date in Scotland is called "Date of Entry" and you and the seller need to agree that.  As a first time buyer you should be flexible if the seller needs to tie that up with his buying another property.  The offer you have probably says date of entry to be agreed.
  • Thank you all for the replies and advice. I emailed (maybe should have phoned) my solicitor today asking for any updates and received a reply that they will "chase things along".

I'm unsure if this is a standard amount of time to wait going from verbal to written. However, this could be due to the sellers solicitor searching for land/title deeds etc?

It's pretty normal, especially if you only got your mortgage offer this week. Suggest you talk to your solicitor and they can explain the process (part of what you're paying them for!).
