Removing CIFAS Marker

Hi Guys,
I had applied for a M Plus Account to Virgin Money online, was rejected a few days after and didn't think much of it. However, some days after I noticed an update on my credit file, and seems Virgin Money had issued a Victim of Impersonation CIFAS marker against me. The only two things I think could've caused this, is towards the end of the application they give you a timed test on specific details on your credit file, some of which I didn't know at the top of my head hence had to semi guess, and I have a grandmother who has had a genuine Victim Of Impersonation CIFAS marker. However, this shouldn't be sufficient to grand a CIFAS marker against you surely?
I've already sent an email to Virgin Money on this and are awaiting their response, but was wondering is this normal, and are there any further steps I can take to get this marker removed promptly?
Thanks.
