Question regarding Energy Discount Scheme payment

Hello all,

I have a question regarding the energy bill support payment. I have been looking at my bills and I can't see what benefit the EBS has given me.

For example for my bill for April, my total bill (including debit £73.10 from the previous month) came to £164.31.

I paid £80 direct debit towards this and received £67 EBS which by my calculations should mean my debit is now £17.31.

However, my bill says I am still in debt by £84.31?

What British Gas seem to have done is refunded me £67 from the £80 direct debit I paid them and thus are claiming I have only paid them £13 towards my bill.

Is this what the EBS was? Just a refund on what you have already paid and therefore not reducing your bill at all? If so that doesn't seem to help at all.

I have screenshot my bill to show what has been going on.

Would someone be able to help me understand if this is all ok/I am paying correctly? Or has BG been short-changing me?

So, between 7 March and 1 April:

Your bank balance changed by -£13   (You paid £80 but they refunded £67) - i.e. you paid £13

    You used £91.21 of energy.

Your account balance changed by -£11.21      - i.e. you have paid for £80 of the energy.  But as above, you only paid £13.

Just run through that - you used £90 of energy, paid only £13, and your balance only went down by £11.

You have not been short changed.
