We;re hoping to go to Finland in summer 2024 (late July/ August). I've not traveled abroad since Covid so I feel a bit out of touch! We'll sort out our own bookings for everything, but I wondered if anyone has advice when is the best time of year to look for flights and accommodation? A quick look on booking sites suggested that not many places are available, so I presume they haven't yet entered availability for summer 24 into the system (and I think we need to confirm flights before we book accommodation ideally).

release dates depend on the airlines - full service airlines generally release 11 months out..eg today you can book BA flights up to 23rd June, tomorrow will be 24th June etc. Low cost carriers tend to release in batches...EasyJet released up to 2nd June 2024 last week, next batch will probably be September release.1

We loved our trip to Helsinki, alas BA stopped all flights so it's now Finnair from Heathrow, Norwegian from Gatwick or the delightful Ryanair from Stansted. We travelled in Mid September and the weather was perfect, hotels tend to be cheapest in August when everyone goes on holiday to their cottages in the country1

Our last 3 Ryanair from Stansted flights went:
2018 Massive delays due to lightning hitting the refuelling rigs.
2019 I got hit by a car and was unfit to travel
2020 Global pandemic
Thinking Gatwick or Heathrow may be safer 🤣
We are hoping to visit Helsinki so it's great to hear you enjoyed your trip! Then up to Moominworld.0 -

There are no flights from London City, like you I avoid Stansted like the plague but it is now the wrong side of London for us in any event. The one thing I remember is how fresh the air was, we took the ferry across to Tallinn, at the time it was just escaping from the clutches of Russia, I fear since then they may have woken up to the value of tourists and it may not be the bargain it once was but it seems thousands of Helsinkians go across for the day to buy booze and cigarettes. When we went Marlboro were 75p for 20, but having bought 200 it was apparent they were counterfeit and unsmokable!1

Our last overseas holiday was Romania, the prices were amazingly cheap!0
