What I had for free 2023

As it says on the tin really...I'm a bit of a womble and I love love love a bargain, and free is best of all. So far this year [well, the last month or so  really, I can't remember the previous six months] I've had a free green bin for the garden, currently being used as a water but collecting the water off the greenhouse, a large bin with some bamboo in it which needs to be emptied and split, two mexican pine bedside cabinets, a water tank to make into a pond, two geums, a wicker basket and a metal umbrella basket, both destined for use in the garden somehow and fingers crossed, hoping for a pizza oven..

What did you get? And tips and tricks for doing it...My tip would be , always be polite if youre asking for something, and for giving stuff away, strike up a conversation before you tell them where ou live to make sure they just haven't said they want it not to miss out..

I wombled a Belfast sink, which is now a water feature with a solar fountain & mini bulrushes. I've also acquired plants for my garden, beautiful honey from my friend's hives and a BNWT rotary washing line 😁

I managed to get metal tile trim free when I ordered a bathroom the other day. I went in to pay shortly before they closed at lunch time Saturday and they were really busy, rather than ammend my quote and re do the order they just gave me the trim. £20 saved, every little helps. I also salvaged a bath filler tap from a bath going in a skip. Its in perfect condition and will match the basin tap. Spot of luck for a change!!

Found a beautiful birdbath bowl in a skip last weekend. So very happy with this find as I was clumsy and broke the previous decades old bowl.  The new (to us) bowl has a gorgeous graduated depth and our goldfinch fledglings love bathing in it.

I did try to find a bird bowl to purchase after I broke the last one but they were £30!  So made due weighting a t¥pperware bowl on top which wasn’t ideal.  Only the wood pigeons & collared doves went to that one.

it makes me smile every time I look at it

And I forgot, I got a veg trug from someone that I sturdied up again by dint of more screws and painted it black with the remains of the fence paint..It will house lettuces by the back door.

And THAT is a stunning bird bath...

A few months ago we got a small bookcase that someone had left out 'free to a good home' l left it 2 days in case someones need was greater than ours, then it began to rain and we took it as hubby's Lego has out grown it's space! My dad is a member of our local preserved steam railway and has tickets for a free trip that expire soon so we are looking at a free trip hubby, brother, dad and myself in the next few months.

The bulrushes aren't doing their thing yet, but are just the right size! Think I will keep an eye out for a solar pump rather than the fountain though

How wonderful Floss!  Wish I could find a Belfast sink like that it makes a superb water biome for plants insects and lots of other wildlife!. We used to have those solar fountains too but it gave up the solar ghost after one season.

Good afternoon 

Didn't get chance to post yesterday as only got home at 8pm. 2 more night shifts to go. 

ds2 is doing ok, managing his medication and machine they lent him. I make sure he has sandwiches or snack food that he can have and my lovey neighbours cook him a meal. We are back to addenbrookes on Friday afternoon for physio.

o/s today make food to take with me, vacuum and dust, do a bit of shopping. Doggy has been walked this morning.
