Student loan trying to claim a refund for overpaying

Hi. I hope this is in the right section of the forum.
I've recently discovered that I've overpaid my plan 2 student loan by just over £300. When I rang the SLC to request a refund I've been told that I can't have a refund as I still have a plan 1 loan on debit and so they will be transferring the £300 of credit from plan 2 to the plan 1 balance.
I don't see how they can do this as I've already paid my plan 1 contributions per my earnings on payslips and so this 300 is almost an involuntary overpayment which should come back to me. Is anyone able to advise?

Depends on the reason the overpayment was taken. If it is because you used more in one month, but were still over the threshold for the year, then you can’t have a refund.
I’ll ask the forum team to move this over to the student board. You may see more answers to similar questions over there.
