If it's loose but you just can't reach it try using a hot glue gun and put a blob on a screwdriver then stick it to the inside of the tube.  Once fully set pull it out
Thanks, GrubbyGirl_2.  Unfortunately, it's stuck fast with no space between the metal ground spike and sleeve.

I managed to get the two hooks I made from a metal clothes hanger under the tiny lip of the sleeve, but they pull away when you try to lift it out as it is so thin.

Fingers crossed the new dryer fits now I've managed to remove the thicker of the two sleeves.

What plastic is the ring you took out?
And how sharp a tip did your spike have?!

I'm hoping the new rotary will fit the space so I can leave it in place!
have you measured the inside diameter of spike?
Argos shows pole diameter, what have you ordered?

It's a rigid type plastic, ThisIsWeird.

I can't recall how sharp the tip of the spike is, but I vaguely remember it look a bit like the one in this photo

Soz, I meant the spike you tried to use to prise between the plastic and metal wall.

But, good point, if the new one has a tapered tip, it'll hopefully fit through the remaining ring.

Ah ... I see what you mean now! I didn't have anything very thin that was long enough. The skewer is probably a couple of mm as is the tip of the screwdriver.

The new rotary is being delivered this week so I'll report back then.

Hi all, after a bit of jiggery-poker with the old metal ground spike we managed to get the new rotary line to fit!  The metal spike was a bit battered and bruised so we had to hammer it to make it round again.

Thanks to everyone who was kind enough to respond and offer suggestions  :)

    Brilliant! Glad it's sorted.
