Travel insurance for couples not living together

I always holiday with a friend and we have to take separate insurance but would we get the full cost of the holiday if either has to cancel?

You would need a group travel insurance

Anything that would be covered by their insurance. Would they get the full cost or only their share?

Each party claims their share off their insurance.

The issues of having separate insurances is that you wouldnt be covered for each other's pre-existing conditions. So if they have a long standing heart issue and become ill with it before the holiday then they'd be able to claim (assuming they'd declared it and it'd been accepted) but you most likely would be excluded from claiming.

This can be mitigated by buying a Group policy but one will have to declare all their medical conditions to the other and some people get embarassed mentioning their herpes or genital warts to their friends

If you each have separate insurance and one party is unable to travel but is covered by that policy the other party won't have automatic grounds to claim on theirs.
