I can't get a straight answer from EDF.
Why does my Government funded discounts (£66/£67) which appear as credits on page 2 of my bill also appear on page 1 as a debit under the heading "Refunds)?
It's like they are giving you the credits then taking them back !!    or am I missing something?

  • you are missing the £66/£67 being credited to your bank account.

Many, many, many of the same messages regarding EDF and their billing around this.
  • If you search this forum, this topic has been discussed many times. As yet, EDF has yet to be found at fault.

Edf had to amend their systems in a hurry and yes it is confusing but the bottom line is right and the 6 x £66/7 has been credited to your bank
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

What you're missing - just like many other people before you - is the third place that the discounts appear on the bill.  And it's really not obvious.

You've found the credits (the government money arriving) and the debits (the money getting sent to your bank), but there's one more place to look.

Investigate the calculation of energy charges very carefully - you'll notice that the subtotal doesn't actually match the detailed breakdown, it's different by the amount of the discount.

So actually, when you look at it overall, you had credit twice (once in the cash and once in the charges) and debit once.  It adds up, and you did get the discount.

    Sub Total Gas + Sub Total Electricity + 5% VAT = Total - £66/67

EDF deducts the EBSS from the total amount without showing that they are doing this.

    So you have
£67 from the government paid to EDF
£67 paid to you bank account  by EDF
£67 discount on the energy used
