Value of a jade necklace?

So a while back I was given a chunky jade pendant by a Chinese friend. It's not something I would ever wear so it's just sitting in a drawer which seems a waste so I'm considering selling it.
But I have no idea what it's worth.
I know jade can be worthless or priceless but I suspect that the person who gave it to me probably would have spent a reasonable amount on it - enough that's it's genuine jade anyway. And it certainly looks the part and is in a nice box etc.
Any ideas on how to at least ballpark the value on it? I'm not sure I live near anywhere that would buy/sell jade and a bit reluctant to just throw it on eBay and let the market scoop it up for a fiver.
Thought I'd see if there's any suggestions from here.

You're absolutely right, Jade varies hugely in its value as several things affect its value.
I'd be inclined to contact a jeweller, a high end one - Hatton Garden or their counterparts in Birmingham, and let them appraise it.
Take your next steps once that has been carried out.
A family member had a pretty Jade ornament on their mantlepiece ..... they didn't know anything about Jade, it was given to them by someone who travelled to Asia a lot in the 1990s .... this thing, when valued, was worth several thousand pounds !
Definitely get your item professionally valued before deciding what to do with it.0 -
Feels like that might be the way to go ... sadly not anywhere near London or Birmingham to do that easily.0

Any decent auction house should be able to help with a valuation .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Go this route before anything else.0 -

I would still advise contacting places, providing images and descriptions and taking it from there.0 -
Your nearest auction house may give you AUCTION values. I had a valuation for a commemorative brandy "book" brought back from HK in the 80's. just sent in photos from all angles, . Done.0

Yeah I sent some photos to a local auction place - hopefully they can at least give me a guide if its worth nothing, something or a lot and then that will guide me as to what to do next.0

Sent some pictures to my local auction house and they said it's probably not worth very much but didn't put a price on it. Sadly. Not sure what to do with it now.0

if not see what a local jeweller will offer you. I would hesitate to suggest eBay as Jade is often faked, or a lesser stone, and a dealer would probably not spend a great deal on it without seeing and handling it first.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Be careful sending it to an auction house.
Research their fees very carefully.
They could be around 15 or 20 % plus 20 Vat on top.
