Travel Insurance

Options
Good afternoon. Hopefully this is an easy one!
My wife's mother has Alzheimers and both myself & wife are registered as her carers. She lives at home, but since October last year, when her dad passed away, my wife has been staying with her mum to help look after her. There is also support in the form of Carers who attend 4 times a day 7 days a week. The question I have is, she is scheduled to go into respite day care for around 10 days in late October and we are looking to try and get an overseas break for a week while she is in respite.
Does anyone know what affect, if any, my wife's mother's condition would have on us making a claim on travel insurance if we needed to? She obviously doesn't need to be named on the policy as she isn't travelling, but if we had to cancel or cut short due to something happening to her and with her condition being 'pre-existing', would we still be covered?
Any advice/steer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance 👍

Coverage for non-travelling relatives pre-existing condition is very poor, people will talk on here about declaring the condition to get coverage but in practice no one can remember which insurer even gives you the option of doing this.

There is at least one insurer that talks about reasonably foreseeable events though how they judge if a change in the condition is foreseen on unforeseen isnt abondently clear in the absence of explicit medical advice. It technically gives a glimmour of hope.

Ultimately it depends on what you think "may happen to her" to require a return... a fall with a broken limb or stroke (obv not wishing any of these) are much more strongly argued independent of her pre-existing condition
