Pub lunch between Lincoln and Devon

Not sure if anyone can help, but we're taking the elderly inlaws to Devon and travelling from Lincoln. It's a bit of a trek and they're asking us to find somewhere to stop off for lunch, however, they are after a nice pub lunch and not the service station McDonalds!
Anyone recommend somewhere not too far off the M5 about half way down?

Gloucester services (just before dobbies) is certainly not McDonalds. Fancy organic farm shop etc.
Fromebridge mill pub at J13 is a nice place. Very close to junction but by river.

Our first port of call is The Good Pub Guide.
I lived in Gloucester too many years ago to remember, but The Red Lion at Wainlode was a favourite and it still looks to be open.

Personally I've always found the National Trust good for this sort of thing... many properties are fairly good for motorway junctions, and the cafe's are usually good - having a membership in Devon and Cornwall can also be handy for beach car parks, or something to do if it's wet!1
