Pub lunch between Lincoln and Devon

Not sure if anyone can help, but we're taking the elderly inlaws to Devon and travelling from Lincoln. It's a bit of a trek and they're asking us to find somewhere to stop off for lunch, however, they are after a nice pub lunch and not the service station McDonalds!

Anyone recommend somewhere not too far off the M5 about half way down?

Dobie's Garden centre? Favourite stop off for Lancs to Devon.

  • Gloucester services (just before dobbies) is certainly not McDonalds. Fancy organic farm shop etc.

Fromebridge mill pub at J13 is a nice place. Very close to junction but by river.

2nd Gloucester services, the farm shop is very good, always stop in when passing for the butchers.

Also Junction 14 just a few minutes away is Tortworth farm shop and cafe one side, and The Hideout on the other.

Our first port of call is The Good Pub Guide.

I lived in Gloucester too many years ago to remember, but The Red Lion at Wainlode was a favourite and it still looks to be open.

Personally I've always found the National Trust good for this sort of thing... many properties are fairly good for motorway junctions, and the cafe's are usually good - having a membership in Devon and Cornwall can also be handy for beach car parks, or something to do if it's wet!

Yes, but you have to get there early or they tend to run out of food.  I've been to a few NT places at 1.30pm and there's next to nothing left.

Called in here on the way back today - picked up a few things, but found it quite expensive.

Did Hadley Bowling Green on the way down - i preferred the food here.

And Fromebridge mill pub on the way back up today - preferred the nice location. Inlaws and rest of family loved this pub, so thanks for the tip. I also loved it as i got 20% with my BLC :)
