I was horrified to find they had taken money out of my account (again!!) this weekend for the same spurious reason as you.  I called my bank this morning and asked them to put a block on any more payments to this company - I do not trust them not to find a reason to incur yet another charge! When it is due to renew in November, needless to say I won't. Ideally, I'd cancel now, but of course that would incur ANOTHER charge. Technically, nothing they are doing is illegal I think, but it's morally dubious at the very least.

Lesson learnt - I will stick to AA, RAC or GreenFlag in the future!
Have you tried asking the bank to raise a chargeback? That's what I have done
  • If Dynamo have a Direct Debit for your bank account, then the rules stipulate that they MUST notify you of the trasnaction before it takes place, therefore giving you time to stop it.  If they didn't give this notice, then it's an illegal transaction and your bank should automatically refund you.

Thanks for this. It wasn't a direct debit, it was a charge to my card. To be fair, they did email me at 21:12 on Friday night (after their offices were shut) and give me until 23:00 the same day before they took the money. How kind of them

Aren’t these the guys that impose a ‘cost of living’ increase during the cover period despite you thinking you’d payed for a year of cover? One to avoid.

From reading the reviews on trustpilot it appears they are
  • Terrible company!
They levied a ‘Cost of living charge’, which was inflation plus a percentage, but from the start of cover and on the undiscounted premium (Small print!).
To cancel would cost even more, so I instructed them that I no longer required cover and not to take any further payments. They took a further £100+ payment this year from my credit card but I had earlier instructed the credit card company not to pay Dynamo or Recover recovery and they did a ‘chargeback’.
Dynamo have now sent a demand for over £100 including ‘£35 fee’! and are threatening ‘small claims court’ which affects credit ratings.
I have kept all communications and written to them but urge all to avoid these utter scam artists.
I now always check reviews for companies but am mystified how Dynamo still have a four star Trusted Trader rating?

  • Dynamo Cover ltd are also responsible for the companies known as Action Call and HomeRescue.co as well as Recover Cover.

Someone needs to stop this company at their game at preying on people like this and operating on the very edges of what is acceptable.

County Court only affects credit history if you don't settle the court judgement within a month... if you do then it will never go on there and so never impact any ratings.

Like most Trust Pilot etc scores... half the people score just on the price they pay.
