Ferry Options

We’re off to France in August, to near Sait-Nazaire, leaving from SE London, and I’m struggling to find the best ferry crossing.

Going to St Malo would be best, and we’ve decent flexibility on dates, but I’m getting sick of getting to the end of the process to find it’s an eleven hour overnight crossing and they’ve not got any cabins available.

Is there any way to get a list of which crossings exist in the period we want without getting to the last step and being told that we have to sleep in a plastic bag at the back of the disco?

If the public websites of the ferry companies don't support an enquiry in that format (i.e. which dates have cabin availability) then it might be best to phone them, as the systems used by their call centre staff may be more functional?

If you want to go to Western France the only option is Brittany Ferries which is ridiculously expensive and booked up, cabin-wise, months in advance. Look for a day sailing or be prepared to possibly sleep standing up. Your choices are limited at this stage but with only one website to check, it shouldn't take that long

If you're happy with the driving why not go Dover Calais Ferry with, if necessary, a "cheap" overnight motel type stop to break the journey.

I've done this journey in the past and its not too bad. You could also factor in stops to tourist attractions along the way.
