Its just a mains wiring junction box --- Ashley being the brand --- so tells us nothing useful about its purpose.

You need to trace those wires (or at least look in relevant places) for similar wires:
Doorbell is most likely. (Bell push in doorframes, transformer, bell housing etc.,.)
BT bell extensions would not have used that type of box (but who know what people do when 'modifying' the original install
.
Be aware that it might have been used for mains lighting or similar by an unwise/untrained diy-er. Thus a potential for it being 'live'.
It may also just have been a radio or hifi loudspeaker extension from one room to another?0 -
