Amex Credit Limit Increase

Does anyone know how you can easily get a credit limit increase with Amex. We have had the card about 4/5 years now but each time we ask for an increase they ask for proof of income etc and then only agree an increase of about £500 each time. We use our credit card to pay for everything, including hols and it would be helpful if the limit could be a bit higher.
This is in huge contrast to other credit card companies who will increase the credit limit at the drop of a hat.
Any ideas welcome. Thanks.

This does depend a bit on which of their cards you have!
If you have a CREDIT card with them, then you do have a fixed credit limit, in general to increase this, take it to the limit (say £10 under!) and pay off in full as soon as you get a statement - you should get a limit increase offer within 3-6 months.
If you have a CHARGE card with them, then they will decide an arbitrary limit based on your earnings for the first 6 months to a year and then base the limit on what you spend. Generally you limit will be 150% to 200% of the highest amount you have paid off in one month.
Hope this helps.0 -
This is difficult as not all stores take Amex. I will try though. Thanks for the advice. There's no woman sicker than the woman who is sick on her day off !0

I'd say that Amex are just about the only responsible lending credit-card company around. Had a Blue for a year with a 6k limit - they contacted my employer & seemed to actually work out that I could afford the limit. When I got a Platinum late last year, had to go through it all again & they just put £500 on it & let me transfer the Blue limit.
Contrast to MBNA who seem to up my limit everytime I speak to them about something!0 -
Yes they are responsible but I think that by the time you have held the card for 4 or so years and use it regularly they could be a bit more trusting and increase the credit limit. We want to use the card as much as possible to accumulate more cash back but are limited because of the low credit limit. There's no woman sicker than the woman who is sick on her day off !0
