Scottish Power - The saga continues

After 10 months and an intervention by the Ombudsman I am slightly further along the path to actually ditching Scottish Power.  Although my meter shows an incorrect balance, only communicates with Scottish Power once a day rather than the hourly reports it is supposed to give and refuses to accept reprogramming to Credit mode from pre-payment, Scottish Power insist it is functioning correctly.  I wish to transfer to Octopus who cannot accept Smart Prepayment meters.  Does Scottish Power have a duty to replace the meter in order that I can switch to my chosen supplier?

Deep seated hatred of Scottish Power and all who sail in her - would love to see Ofgem grow a pair and actually do something about it.

You are a little confused. By default, smart meters are now set to a 30 minute profile. The comms hub is not in constant communication with the supplier. It is on ‘listening watch’ similar to a mobile phone. Once a day, the supplier calls the comms hub and it initiates a data pull. The meter returns index readings and a file containing usage data.

If your meters are SMETS2 or SMETS1 adopted by the DCC, my understanding is that Octopus will accept a switch involving a pre-payment meter in pre-payment mode. Once the transfer has gone through, they will consider a change to credit mode.

When I spoke with Scottish Power this morning, the latest update they could give me was from 4am - their 'award winning app' is supposed to update half hourly, but doesn't (although Loop does seem able to pull down half hourly readings).  Octopus have just told me that they cammot accept a switch on a pre-payment smart meter so I appear to be stuck.

I believe that Loop refreshes (pulls data) from your meters three times a day. The only supplier that offers 30 minute updates for gas and electricity is Octopus via its bespoke Octopus Mini. The Mini connects to the HAN ( the same network as your IHD). Smart meter data is then passed from the Mini, via a home wifi network, to the Octopus’ Cloud Server. The App gets its data from the Cloud server.

And an update on the REAL issue - after 10 months toing and froing it now seems that there are 2 different MPANs registered to my address (after initially setting me up two seperate electricity accounts - both with the wrong address) Scottish Power now claim to have managed to reprogramme the meter, issuing me with the 4th different account number in 12 months!  Hopefully this will mean that I can at last swap to different provider and say farewell to this whole sorry tale.
