I have a fairly old Worcester combi boiler, model 28CDi which has just been serviced and found to be working fine. However the thermostatic remote control system doesn't work and our engineer advises that we need to replace both componenents - the reciever and transmitter. I've been advised by Bosch's helpline that the item we want has serial number 7716 192 049. I'm finding it difficult to source this online - the only supplier I've found who mentions it is this one https://www.keeptheheaton.com/products/47084-worcester-7-716-192-049-0-digistat-system-kit , the (a) the cost is an eyewatering £351 and (b) it is out of stock.
I see that there is another manufacturer named Drayton who supply similar systems at much more reasonable prices and claims they "fit all boilers".
Can anyone either (a) advise me where I can find the genuine Worcester spare parts or (b) tell me whether there is a generic product by Drayton or some other manufacturer that really can be directly substituted for the Worcester parts.

Any Thermostat / programmer will fit the boiler. Do you need one with "smart" features or just basic timer programming?0

Do you need one with "smart" features or just basic timer programming?Any thermostat that can switch 240V AC will work - Some thermostats are low voltage, so you do need to be a little careful about which one you buy.Working back from the Bosch part number given by the OP, the boiler (at a guess) pre-dates the introduction of smart control via their EMS bus (a proprietary system that allows a "smart" thermostat to tell the boiler to reduce the heat output). Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
The Drayton will work fine, I have this fitted to my boiler. It comes as two parts, the Digistat3 wireless thermostat / programmer and the SCR receiver. You can normally get both on ebay together for around £1000

I've only ever seen one boiler that I couldn't fit external controls too and it was some european oddball build that just had one printed circuit board and a timer/thermostat connected directly to it.
but its a Worcester, chances are you can fit any external stat, surely any heating engineer would know that?
If you see a thermostat labelled as "volt free" it means it will switch anything you put into it, it's just a relay1 -
Hi Redlander.Any chance of a photo of the two parts, please - room stat and the receiver?Does it look like this:Is the receiver part built in to the boiler casing, or is it separate?0

Does it an LCD display for timings?Or, even cheaper, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295657941284?
