Hence I said “covering signature slip (and CVV2)”Gerry1 said:
I thought merchants are not allowed to store CVVs?Marchitiello said:...could they not have just taken a picture / scan of the back just covering the signature slip (and CVV2) ?
Yes, Amex Platinum has a very good travel insurance package indeed, which is also better then the US version whereby they will also cover you in addition to the minimum cover that is sometime included as part of the rental cost in certain countries.WillPS said:
Amex Platinum is an unusual card - it has an annual fee of £575 for one thing!Gerry1 said:
Are you sure that includes full insurance, including damage / injuries caused to third parties? That's a very unusual benefit on UK cards.Marchitiello said:...presented my Amex Platinum Charge Card (yes 3% fee on a $50 daily rent, but worth it for the Hassle free Car Hire insurance included)

it does cost £575 a year, but with the current statement credits packages (£400 a year on thing that I would have normally spend on anyway), travel insurance value for the whole family, and some Cashback offers on things like hotels, fuel, etc, I ended up valuing the fee actually paid max £50, which I amply justified for the many lounge entries in the UK and abroad for 4/6 people (6 at the Centurion lounges).0 -
Sorry, but it can be read in a different way, i.e. that the photo covered the CVV, rather than your finger !

I believe in that context (that the rental company wanted to photograph the front of the card with the cardholder name) the only thing that is not “needed or allowed” in many “modern” cards that have all the data on the reverse side of the card, is indeed the signature slip that often also contain the CVV2, if not immediately next to it, hence my comment of letting scan it/photograph it but “covering” those two things…Gerry1 said:Sorry, but it can be read in a different way, i.e. that the photo covered the CVV, rather than your finger !0 -
I experienced this for the first time at the end of October last year, I've used the same Barclaycard for years, pre-pandemic to rent cars in the US without this problem.
My questions are -
What's the current state of this issue?
Is it just Barclaycard Rewards Visa or all Barclaycard's?
Doe's this impact credit cards from UK across the board?0
