Warranty shop gone into liquidation

Hi I bought a electric folding mobility scooter from Middletons about 10 months ago.
Yesterday one of the front suspension coils broke, I hadn't hit a pot hole or a curb, I was just driving on a flat smooth path.
As Middletons has gone into administration I was informed via email from them that my warranty was now void and to contact the manufacturer drivedevibiss ( I do have extended warranty through a third party which doesn't start until the beginning of September)

The manufacturer told me they don't do the warranty themselves but have me contact info of some local agents they deal with.
I contacted these and they told me they could deal with the issue but would charge me for labour at X amount an hour.

My question is is this correct should there's agents be able to charge me for labour or should the manufacturer still cover that.

People often get confused about warranties and consumer rights.

Warranty is offered by the manufacturer and they set their own terms and conditions on it - so you would have to see what your specific terms say. Certainly it's possible that your warranty only covers parts and the labour is extra but without seeing it we wouldn't know. Probably the best way to do it would be to contact the manufacturer again and say that their agent is charging labour and is that correct.

Your consumer rights are a separate thing and are through the retailer - you may well have solid grounds to make a claim but of course if your retailer is no longer around then there's no hope to recover anything from them. Did you pay by credit card? There might be a way to look at involving your credit company to help on your behalf if you are having issues.
