Paintwork on car peeling off
Hi,
I'm assuming j have no rights as its been a while since my.purchase but just wondered if anyone had some knowledge of this.
My car has started to peel off on my bonnet and it's getting bigger. It's very smoothly coming off and 2 paintwork guys have quoted me and said its most likely down to shoddy paintwork job.
I bought.the car in Feb 2017 so it's been over 6 years. However I bought it as an ex employee car and was about a year old with not many miles.
Therefore I suspect the car was painted bad from the start.
Do I have any rights to claim any expense of f the dealership or is it just one of those things? The paintwork repair people have both said this shouldn't happen.

No rights whatsoever. Sorry

Unlikely you'll have any comeback - have you researched the model and paint colour? For example there are some Mercedes cars that have an inherent fault with a specific shade of red, where it's been known that Mercedes will rectify it under warranty. If it happened to be a colour and brand that had a common issue, you might have some leverage, but if it's a car/colour combination that nobody has ever complained about - likely not a leg to stand on.

It might have had some front end damage and the bonnet has been painted already too. At 7 years old I'd say you got no chance of claiming.
Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.1 -
Some paint shops can measure the paint thickness. You'll probably find it thicker where its had a prior repair.
I had a paint repair on my car. They'd done a pretty good job, but I could see it. Fortunately, the dealer didn't when I traded it in.1 -
Paint warranty on a car is normally the same as the cars normal warranty and most manufactures cover 36 months from date of first registration
there could be many factors that have caused your paint to fail sounds like you have got lacquer peel and that can be caused by exposure to UV rays degrading the bond between the base colour and the clearcote causing lacquer peel
also bird mess left on the car and not washed off immediately can burn into the paint and this will weaken the area and could result in lacquer peel at some point in the future
also bad prep before a previous paint repair or a smart repair done badly could also fail at some point in the future
but you are on your own and will have to cover the cost of repair as nobody else is liable after such a long period of time0
