Commercial Gas connection in a domestic property

I was told that I have a commercial gas connection installed in our home ( for unknown reason as we are only 2 person in the property) and hence a smart meter cant be installed. I have been trying vehemently with my suppliers over the years to get it changed from commercial to domestic meter and they give various excuses. Present supplier is OCTOPUS ENERGY and they are also not helpful. I had again emailed them and awaiting a reply. I wanted to know how this could be sorted and who is the company I should get in touch with. Wed don't use much gas at all as only 2 person in the property and I feel we are paying too much for the gas as our direct debit is always around £250 or so.

Separate the commercial vs domestic connection discussion away from the price.  Talking about direct debit amounts is not likely to be helpful in your situation, and £250 or so isn't a hugely strange amount anyway.

You've said they gave "various excuses".  You'll get better help if you tell us what those excuses were.  Who to get in touch with?  Your supplier.

Are you on a domestic tariff or a commercial tariff?
Trying to determine if the problem is the type of the meter (medium pressure perhaps?) or if the supply is still registered as a commercial supply?

Commercial Gas price will likely be a lot cheaper than domestic per KWH.  Is it worth rocking the boat ?

It is more expensive as Ofgem cap does not apply - my parents have always had a commercial electricity/gas supply for their house but are now coming off a 3 year fix (2.5p for gas) and out-of-contract prices are way above residential rates and a new 3 year fix was also much more expensive than the residential July 1st variable rates.
