What is this payment?

So I have just checked my credit card statement and find that for the past two weeks I have paid £1.69 to
PPOINT_ TODAYS NEWS GR GRANTHAM GBR        I cannot find who this is and how to stop it.
I will contact my card company when they open and stop it but curious.   Local paper has a monthly subscription but I haven't subscribed.

Do you live anywhere near Grantham? Have you been into the newsagents and bought a bar of chocolate/drink/snack?

I'm not sure that those payments would go through a Paypoint Machine, would normally go through the vendors card machine.

It might not be a pay point payment - it might just be the merchant name - as in it’s the todays news pay point store in Grantham.

Better to be safe than sorry. I challenged an entry on a statement once for a brewery (I don't drink alcohol) - but on further investigation it was a restaurant I'd visited some time before that hadn't for whatever placed the transaction through in a timely manner, and so it was very late showing up. Due to the time difference between me visiting the restaurant and the transaction appearing, and me being a non-drinker - I was insistant to the guy at Barclays that it wasn't me. The penny dropped a day or two later, and I got back on the phone offering my sincere apologies asking them to re-instate the transaction (Which they kindly did).

I agree that many people don't even look at their statements - the number of threads here around the fact that someone has been charged something for two years without them knowing about it and can they get a refund please - always astounds me :)

PayPoint offers EPOS for merchants - I've paid this way in this way before, I think in a branch of GT News.
