British Gas debit
I have received a final bill from British Gas who are saying my account is £2995 debit. As I had not been sending regular monthly meter readings they had used estimated readings. I checked my usage and for a 3 bedroom semi detached house with 2 adults they say my annual estimated electricity usage is 23590 kWh and gas 17689 kWh? I don’t understand how they have calculated this as previously it was averaging between 6000 to 7000 units electricity and 17000 to 20000 gas units a year.

Hi,forget about size of house, number of rooms, 2.5 children etc, as you have said that's been estimated, BG don't know your lifestyle.Have you got latest actual readings 12 months apart to show actual annual usage, did you check meter readings against estimated when you got bill?Notice you say final bill, did you take meter readings when you vacated property?0

Where do these figures come from ? These are well above average.NBA_2023 said:.............................as previously it was averaging between 6000 to 7000 units electricity and 17000 to 20000 gas units a year.
Have you got any old bills - perhaps attached to emails - where the the readings are Actual / Are you able to go back to your old property and get readings ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Are you able to go back to your old property and get readings ?What old property? Thread drift…..?0

Forget estimates. Read your meters and pass the index readings to BG. Ask BG to produce any amended statement. The moral of the story is simple: either read your meters monthly or get smart meters.NBA_2023 said:I have received a final bill from British Gas who are saying my account is £2995 debit. Fair enough: I missed the word ‘final’. Sorry.Robin9 said:

BG should have cancelled all your previous bills and re billed for various periods of time based on the charges you would have paid at the time. Is that what you have?
