I'd be prepared to put money on them swapping the engine and now wanting a refund...facade said:Assuming the fault actually exists(I suppose that the engine they have swapped in could have crash damage that bent the pulley or the pump shaft which is why they would know

I don't know, there are plenty of "good runners- guaranteed" about for under £500, I wouldn't pay out several times the price, then effectively do 2 engine swaps and then have all the agro of trying to get a refund when I could just get one for under £500.I think it is more likely there is no bent pulley.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

OP- Listen to advice here. No refund and no further communication to buyer of your vehicle. None.Mortgage free

Unless she had got an inspection prior to purchase, she was taking the risk anyone does with a private car purchase - and the reduced cost no doubt. That's on her. It sounds like she's panicking and regretting her purchase, but none of this is for you to deal with. I agree with others, ignore as she is trying it on.3

I don't think they would have the nous to replace an engine or anything major like that. Stupid idiots who want a pristine condition car for low money and then whine about things when it isn't unfortunately right, as said you get a vehicle inspection before not after, clutch can be considered wear and tear so can air con, just this pump issue doing my head in, just bozos who think they know and don't0

Maybe not.
It might well be part of the experienced scam artist to give the impression of being naive / vulnerable.1 -

Potentially far worse than that. Buyer might have removed parts that make a working car now a non-working car, you have no idea what has been done to the car since it left your drive. Definitely don't refund, you have done nothing wrong.Stokiest75 said:My partner says to give her a refund and put it behind me but be very thorough next time I sell car privately. Have sold a few over the years but never had 1 wanting money back before. If I have it back it puts extra number of owners on v5, plus spending money to put it right I will lose out on hundreds of pounds.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.2 -
Getting worried to be honest as don't want a lengthy court case getting me down which potentially could be expensive as well, even though I know she has no comeback but knowing my luck it would go against me.0

I know it's easy to say when you're not directly involved, but you really should not be worried. Please go back and re-read the replies you've had. In the *very* unlikely chance that this person would actually go legal, you've done absolutely nothing wrong. Respond with a firm but polite "not my problem" and move on.Stokiest75 said:Getting worried to be honest as don't want a lengthy court case getting me down which potentially could be expensive as well, even though I know she has no comeback but knowing my luck it would go against me.0 -

It won't be expensive, if you lost (just don't see it) you only pay your own costs, all they can claim is any court fees.Stokiest75 said:Getting worried to be honest as don't want a lengthy court case getting me down which potentially could be expensive as well, even though I know she has no comeback but knowing my luck it would go against me.
So she decides to hire someone, she pays that win or lose.
