Old Computer game

Go back about 10 years, there was this wizz kid who did something in the computer world, he probably wrote a successfull game, and then he decided to start his own company, and write the best computer game todate, something about it being very interactive...I dunno. I think it had "red" in the title, I just read about "Red Alert" but it doesn't mention being written by a wizz kid, and it doesn't look too impressive either.

Anyhoo,

Do you know who the kid was and what was the game?

Thanks

One wizz kid I can think of is Demis Hassabis who was a child prodigy chess player and worked for Lionhead studios under the legendary Peter Molyneux. He went his own way founding Elixir studios (since defunct) and put a lot of resources in Republic the Revolution although it was released only about 4 years ago. Not sure if that's the one you're thinking of but it was very ambitious in it's interactivity with thousands of A.I.s. Highly political game and I can't think of anything that comes close to being like it.

  • Red Alert was very impressive for its time! Red Alert 2 is still a fantastic strategy game.

I love the command and conquer games. Don't think Red Alert was particularly revolutionary or created by a "wizz kid". I remember playing Westwood's Dune 2 on the Acorn and the C&C games including Red Alert are just a further development of that game really. More evolution than revolution.

Sorry, I'm sure I would enjoy playing it aswell, as I did enjoy a game called civilisation and Alpha Centauri, which seem to have similar 3D top down views and probably similar gameplay. The screen cap of Red Alert did not look like an impressive groundbreaking / jaw dropping game, which Demis was supposed to be creating.

    Superscaper,

Yeah that's the guy and that's the game, a pity he didn't get it as he wanted it, he must have been disappointed. Now to see if I can buy it cheap :D £2 on ebay

    Thanks

I managed to buy it for a couple of quid (new) in PC World about two years ago. Think that was the last thing I bought from there, it's all it's good for really, the bargain bin stuff. Haven't had a chance to get into it properly yet. But I do tend to like the quirky unusual games as well as the more mainstream Half Lifes and Oblivions etc.

But I guess he really did follow in Peter Molyneux's footsteps of being overly ambitious and producing something that never lived up to the hype.
