BMW timing chain
Please can I have some advice. I have a 2010 1 series BMW with 80k miles, regularly serviced The timing chain has snapped. I'm expecting somewhere upwards of £3k to repair. In view of it being diesel and 13 years old, would you repair at this price? I've read about the timing chain issues for the year this car was built but don't know whether I have any recourse with BMW for this.

Depending where you live. If its London and places with similar to ULEZ, forget it.
Anyway is this the N47 engine? I would not for 3K but I am sure you can have it done for 1.5K using an Indy.0 -
when you say regularly serviced how regular has the car been serviced
the condition based servicing for that car would have been 18000 miles or two years between oil and filter changes and it just wasn't enough. l had a 2009 520D with the N47 and l had the oil changed every 10000 miles or every year just to have fresh oil in car
if the chain has snapped you are in for a big bill to repair as you need to pull the engine to replace the chain and when the chain snapped the engine may have bent all the valves which will need going through and on that engine the bottom sprocket that is fixed to the crankshaft was the cause of premature chain wear and to do a proper job you should replace the crankshaft with the bottom pulley to give the new timing chain a chance because just replacing the chain will not cure the problem that caused your chain to snap
the price for repair quoted above at an indy is very optimistic as a good chain and tensioners is around £500.00 and if you pull the engine on a car with 80k on the clock you would be crazy not to do the clutch and dual mass flywheel at the same time so it won't be a cheap repair0
