Mobile insists on using Whatsapp when calling a particular contact..?

For some strange reason my newly acquired mobile (Oppo) wants to use only Whatsapp when calling one particular contact. It happens to be the only one of my phone contacts who is also on my Whatsapp contacts/chats list, so that must have something to do with it!... But I can't figure out what.
I want to call them direct when I'm out of wifi range, but this is proving a problem.
I must be doing something obviously wrong. Can anyone point out what it might be, please?

Hi,just input number using keypad.0

on your phone, gonto contacts, then that particular contact
then tap the number and select default number to call and set to the mobile number rather than whatsapp number3
