I think that's an urban myth, would it stand up in court?

Actually, yes, it does. There are many cases where it is used.

Not great if you are a British gas customer on E7

I'm still surprised that people don't want a smart meter.  It makes life much easier as you don't have to submit readings so one's bills tend to be more accurate rather than having a supplier guess how much energy you've used.

Unfortunately my friend is one of those "worriers" in life. He would be constantly looking at the display, even though I could have it locked in the cupboard out of sight. Takes him weeks to make a simple decision sometimes........
It is a good job that your friend wasn’t around when we switched from coal to natural gas. Personal choice didn’t come into it. You either agreed to have new burners fitted or your gas supply was capped.

Would you please provide details of these "many cases" where direct and published legislation is overridden by "what some people I know think".

You're either completely misunderstanding the meaning common law, or you're making things up to suit your argument.

Another point worth making about those getting hysterical about smart meters is that the manufacturers of gas and electric meters simply don't make the old style "dumb" meters any longer.

In the case of the company I work for (a meter manufacturer - although I should point out I don't work for that arm of the business) the factories in UK, Netherlands and elsewhere which used to build the old meters were sold and demolished. The smart meters are manufactured at new facilities .

So one day, not too long from now, there won't be any of the old style meters for British Gas (or anyone else for that matter) to fit, even if they really, really wanted to.

It seems that BG have fitted a 4-terminal smart meter, so it remains to be seen whether the storage heaters will work correctly.

    No, it's complete rubbish.
