Scottish Power asking for my meter reading before 30th June 2023
Scottish Power have been bombarding me with requests to provide a meter reading that I presume is in anticipation of the lower energy price cap being introduced 1 July.
My question is
1 .Am I compelled to do this. I am not the property. If I don't provide the reading what happens?
2. When I provide the reading the future, say August, will I be charged at the 'lower' rate ?
Thanks!

If you can't or won't provide an actual meter reading, then the supplier will produce an estimated reading for midnight on the 30th June. You will be billed at the lower rate from the 1st July. Energy used up to the estimated reading (30th June) will be at the higher rate.davidoff1 said:Scottish Power have been bombarding me with requests to provide a meter reading that I presume is in anticipation of the lower energy price cap being introduced 1 July.

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

As discussed on the thread linked by Robin9:
1. Not compelled, they will estimate. Just like any other time they need a reading, this is nothing special.
2. No. You pay the price the energy was when you used it or, if you don't provide a meter reading, when they guess that you used it.1 -
Will you be happy if you don't give a reading and they make an estimate much higher than your real use and bill you for those units at the higher price?
They simply want to charge you the correct prices for what you have used.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Why wouldn't you want to give a meter reading?

I am in a similar position with Scottish Power. I am actually going away on holiday on 28th June so it is my intention to read and submit the meter readings tomorrow before I go away. It’s the best I can do!1

I hate these 'meter reading days'
Every day is one of those days for us, and for probably about a month, we will get "why do you need to read/see the meter? We submitted our readings on 30th June"0 -
