Can the DVLA ask for a cheque and then refuse a legally valid one?

    Not sure if that's even part of the technology these days given that OCR is much more advanced.
    They are still printed using magnetic ink on the line at the bottom of the cheques.

    They are because not everyone everywhere has moved onto OCR (and probably no one is keeping a global check on who has/hasnt) however in the UK its virtually all done by OCR now hence why many banks even allow you to deposit a cheque by taking a photo of it rather than physically handing it in (up to a certain value anyway)

    In the case I know of which was some years ago when cheques were a regular means of paying accounts it was a crafty way of delaying payment - he was called in by the bank manager and given a warning
