What category is these types funds under? Are they much different?
Not sure how explain it but look at Baillie Gifford sustainable multi asset
it top 10 are other investors
If I invest into would I be investing into say black total returns or am I investing into funds they hold to?

This is a multi-asset fund, and it is not uncommon for such a fund to be a fund of funds. They work just like any other fund, but rather than invest in market securities directly, they invest in other funds. Another example of such a fund is Vanguard LifeStrategy.
