I keep getting a message for windows update, say your device will restart to update outside of active hours, or I can restart now. Either way, when the pc restarts, I get the message can't update, removing update files (or something like that), so my pc doesn't update, but I get the message every time I log on. What do I need to check to allow the updates?

Well, I followed the instructions, it did a troubleshoot, and I rebooted, and installed updates, but the message has just popped up again.0

It's possible the update got interrupted and is now corrupted
Have you tried doing a system restore to a point before this started happening and trying to update again?0 -
Belarc Adviser which is safe and free will tell you what updates are missing

It won't let me restore, as it says my system was updated more than 10 days ago.0

Last time this happened to me I waited a while and downloaded the latest build of windows then reinstalled it using the option to keep all my files and settings. It worked for a few months, then I ended up doing a clean install anyway, as whatever had gone wrong was causing other problems.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

search 'windows 10 update history'
download the latest update file
run it to update your system0 -
Best option then is to download windows 10 from Microsoft and reinstall windows , that will be automatically updated to the latest edition , there are ways to do it to keep all your settings and programs but I prefer a fresh install
As you've no doubt backed up your computer this is the simplest thing to do

Try this first:(Step 1 and then Step 3, for a 'belt and braces' approach. It is not necessary to complete Steps 2 & 4 for now) https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/disk-cleanup-to-free-up-disk-space-in-windows-10/833599b3-698e-43dc-900f-df2f2fee34f8Robm1955 said:I keep getting a message for windows update, say your device will restart to update outside of active hours, or I can restart now.
