eBay codes FREE8 SPEND8 and BIGFIVE

for the last month there's been a banner advertising these codes, Every purchase I've made on eBay since  I've tried them and never had it work for any of them. How do I see the eligible items? seems completely pointless

I know I'm a cynic but almost every time I click on any X% off banner with Ebay it just takes me to a load of sellers who have stuff X+10% higher priced than the same stuff from other sellers.

yes, it just says make a purchase on an eligible listing

Oh well that's very helpful of them … !

I don't have any of those codes on a banner, only SUNNY20 (and clicking on the banner itself takes me to eligible listings).
