Maximising Spend on Amex

Looking for any tips or pointers on how to maximise spend on Amex credit card especially Water/Electric/Gas and Council Tax.
I have seen some threads on folks using Amex at paypoint or payzone, but am not entirely sure how to go about it or if paypoint/payzone no longer accept Amex.
Also, I spoke to my water provider and they have a provision of a "payment card" but they only have the option of monthly payments on this payment card and there is no option of "pay on bill".
Also, I am not sure that even if I get this water payment card, I will be able to use my Amex card to pay with it at paypoint/payzone.

My Council Tax payment also doesn't seem to be going through with Amex, I simply get a message "card declined".
For electric/gas, I am with British gas and they also seem to have excluded paypoint and I can only use payzone to pay their bills, but again not sure if I need a payment card for my BG account and if payzone will accept Amex.
Also, not sure if there is a payment limit at paypoint/payzone.0 -
I think you'll struggle to pay your bills with Amex. Most people just use direct debit. I did see something a while ago which let people pay direct debits using Amex, but they charged a 3% fee which wiped out the benefits.
The best way to use your Amex is to buy stuff you normally would and pay it off in full every month.0 -
I used Amex to overpay my energy bill by £500 when I needed a final push.
See if your energy company accepts them.0 -
You can use amex at co op paypoint.
In the past I always buy supermarket gift card, Amazon.
Buy something at shop and refund to different card. (This might not work)0 -
P3 said:You can use amex at co op paypoint.Only stores run by The Co-op Group, and not for stores run by other societies (Central England, Midcounties, Southern, Scotmid, Lincolnshire etc).As a rule of thumb, if the store's signage has this logo then you're good. If not, this probably won't work.1
