I just looked at this plant on the GE website.

It says: “Supplied in approx 2-3 litre containers, these are wonderful bushy plants, full of bud and blooms in season”.  It’s clear that this means it will be supplied on bud/bloom when in its flowering season,  which is Spring not Summer,  this is why it is so cheap.
Screenshot of my order email stating what I have ordered!
That’s your order summary not the information on the page which you would have read before ordering,

Not sure what it has to do with Astronomy.  But midsummer day is June 24th.

Midsummer day is the name we now call a festal with it's roots in religion, it isn't actually in mid summer.

I would have said the seasons have quite a lot to do with astronomy...

Seasons exist because of the Earth's tilt.  Astronomy is the study of everything beyond Earth's atmosphere, so whilst it could be argued that astronomy can "look back" into the universe as it was and perhaps determibe what knocked us off a vertical axis and when, it's perhaps not true to say that seasons have much at all to do with astronomy.

They've certainly got quite a bit to do with that big gassy fusion reactor beyond Earth's atmosphere though. It's amazing how these threads drift though isn't it.

Sometimes I really do feel sorry for businesses. All this for a 5 quid purchase, itself a 75% reduction.

I am a complete non-gardener but even I would guess that something reduced  that much might not be ready for the Chelsea Flower Show whatever the original blurb said.

You might guess that, but legally the product description (what you call the original blurb) does matter.

You're not a gardener. The product description for living things like plants and seeds matters very much because in many cases you can't tell by looking at the goods whether you have received what you were promised, you have to have trust that the seller's description is accurate.

Gardening Express seem to have shot themselves in the foot here by describing this plant as 'in bud and bloom'. The buyer relied on that description. We don't know, perhaps his intention was not to plant it in his garden but to put it in a decorative pot and give it as a birthday gift so its appearance on receipt is critical.

The Old Railway Line Garden Centre sell the same product Azalea 'Pink Spider' in 2Ltr Pot and show an almost identical picture online, but with a very different description. Their description says:
The plant's growth rate and size will vary depending on planting position & conditions. Bloom, foliage and interest may vary from photo upon delivery, dependant on season.

Its not about whether I'm a gardener or not, it was a light hearted remark about a sense of proportion.

I really don't expect perfection for something heavily reduced when common sense says it might be a bit tattier than when it was sold for full price whatever the glowing description, particularly perishable and living items.
