Penny Mobile Internet Issues

Ive had no issues with penny mobile for 14 months. I'd moved there after VM stopped PAYG. My broadband is with VM; I can't access data on my android phone using penny mobile, ever since the well publicised issues with VM.
I see the data on sign with the 'H'. I've reset the APN, restarted the phone, toggled between airplane mode and data/WiFi, cleared cache/ browsing history.
When I type in the search bar, the message I get is 'no internet connection', even though data is on.
I can access the internet on my phone using my home WiFi.
Is there anything else I can try?

Just seen that 1p are switching off 3g. My phone is old - so could that be the issue?

Well it's ee and that says july 2023
    So shouldn't be.
    Is yours a 3g phone?
Have you had a message on your 1p account to say it's happening? Haven't checked mine for a while.
Though I've found them really good at communicating whats going on. One reason I like them.
Have you tried their live chat thing? I got speedy answers when I used it but I have a feeling it's week days only. Says on the site.

Thanks for reply. It's a 3g phone so it should get internet via 2g, according to 1p's website. But no, not had anything from them saying that was going to happen - shutdown of 3g. Or it could be that I've inadvertently changed app settings. I've sent them an email.

2G is so very slow that the majority of phones and tablets will think something is wrong and show a no Internet error.
The fact you've got an H means 3G is available so it probably means your APN settings are wrong.

What have you tried on the phone? (eg power cycling, reseting,  updating network settings etc)

The fact that the phone is showing 'H' tells you that it is still connecting to 3G (actually H=3.5G) so as said the issue must be with the settings on the phone itself.
The trick now is to work out just which setting(s) you need to change to connect data to the 'H' signal that it says it is receiving.
TBH though I wouldn't like to try using the internet on 2G once 3G has shutdown, so it's probably time to look at getting a 4G phone if you want more than just 2G calls and texts.
Of course the old phones will still connect to wifi once 3G has gone.
I've got an old Samsung that no longer even has a SIM in it so doesn't connect to mobile at all (apart from emergeny calls). I can still use it to connect to the net over wifi.

EDIT. Just for info, heres a list of the mobile data letters/numbers and what they mean:

Penny mobile told me what the issue is ...it's so simple that I had a 'doh' moment. I've used up the 250mB monthly allowance
