This for an 84 year old woman she is sick with worry. If I wasn`t here to help I don`t know what she would do.
Is she on the Priority Services Register?

It's not just that smart meters are always metric meters. ,Imperial readings are always only in four digits ,never five .
Amazing how bad BG have become .I ve found many of these incorrectly billed metric/imperial mix ups for BG   and they sorted them out pretty quickly .
One thing I m curious about OP ,how did you get such a good deal on the gas kWh rate..? 5.116p a kWh is amazingly cheap when most are on double that at over 10 p a kWh...Have they messed that up too ,Or is a back dated bill from 2018 ?

Is it worthwhile being on the priority register?

It doesn't cost anything, it should make things better and can't make them worse, so why not not join?

    Update.

They are saying all is correct. Any suggestions on next step.

I have replied asking why 4 metres were charged as 122kWh instead of 44kWh.

    Hi Mr *****

I have been asked to contact you regarding the gas billing for ******

The meter was replaced from a 4 digit imperial meter to a 5 digit meter meter in 2017 and has not been billing in cubic ft since this time.

We may publish the equation for converting the imperial to metric but this is not applicable if you have a metric meter.

I can find no inaccuracies on the bills we have sent for this address but if you want to send me further information please reply to this email.

    Kind regards

Go to the ombudsman as soon as the eight weeks point is reached.
In the meantime, send a reply showing that your calculation working is in accordance with the official government advice, and ask them to explain how their calculation gives a much higher result.
Mention that she's on the Priority Services Register and that it will be going to the ombudsman if they still maintain their calculations are correct.

When they admit their mistake, hold out for £100 compo for all the worry and lost time.  Don't setle for less.
They're likely to agree if you show you mean business; it's a lot cheaper for them than letting it go to the ombudsman, as well as avoiding the verdict going against them.
