Problem with returning goods with a gift receipt

Can anyone please help?
I was given gifts for my birthday (22nd April) from my friends from Zara.
I have been out of the country for 8 weeks and have only just been given the gifts from my friends last week but they purchased the goods in April as the trip was not planned.
I went into the Zara store and they have denied me an exchange or gift card as it has passed the 30 day returns policy.
It does not state on their website what the returns policy is for gift receipts, nor does it state it on the gift receipt itself that the goods have to be returned within 30 days.
I am not asking for a refund, I am asking for a gift card for the value of the goods but they are refusing.
I have tried to escalate through their usual channels and complain but am getting nowhere.

Your rights in this case are sadly zero.
You had 30 days to return the goods under their terms, you didn't do this, so they are in their right to refused exchange or refund (even on a gift card).
You being out of the country isn't Zara's problem.
Your friends should have took the gifts back to Zara while you were away and within 30 days and got a refund then.

Bottom line, if these were gifts you have zero consumer rights only goodwill.0

I’m genuinely confused why you’re complaining. There’s no separate refund policy for gift receipts. You have 30 days to return an item due to a change of mind and that’s that. There’s been a few threads about Zara recently but here, they’ve done nothing wrong at all.0

Would they not exchange for another size? (Assuming they were clothes...)Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I have some sympathy for the OP, as Zara's web-site explains the process regarding gift receipts and the rights that they've giving the recipient of the gift. There's no time limit given on the web-site, or not that I can find, so if the buyer of the gift sent the recipient the details of how they could get an exchange then they could easily miss the 30-day deadline rule.

Why would something bought with gift receipt get a longer return period?
I always understood a gift receipt is purely so that the price of the gift is not shown on the receipt. I have never known it to provide extra time to return an item.5
