Is it normal to hear nothing from Barclaycard after applying?

I haven't used Barclays before. After my application online they said they needed to do further checks. But I didn't receive any confirmation email (and still haven't). It's been more than a week now, and nothing has arrived by post either.

Now I'm wondering if I entered my email address wrong. I would expect as a bare minimum that a bank should email you so that you know the application was successful, but I know from experience that other banks (First Direct) also have terrible websites and customer service and fail to let you know what's happening during an application. Even something as basic as an automated confirmation email is too much for some of these banks with their ancient systems.

Anyone who applied know what the process is like? Do they send emails or not?

You should have received an email fairly soon after application, it’s not uncommon for them to request payslips.

You may have entered your email wrong as you say or try checking junk/spam folder. Best thing is to call them to work out what’s going on.

I called them up and after waiting 40 minutes they said it had been immediately rejected, and they never even bothered to tell me.

It's weird because I have 999 credit score and perfect credit history, and no searches have appeared after applying. I dunno if they just had too many people applying and are blanket rejecting people (in which case why still offer it), or maybe there's something weird on another credit file with a different agency... I'll have to check it out.

I've seen other people be given 12 months interest free instead of the 23 months, or maybe a lower amount, so to just be completely rejected surprised me. According to MSE Credit Club I will be accepted by 99% of credit cards. 😂

Barclaycard is one of those providers that has its own eligibility checker. If you are keen on the card still, I'd be tempted to run through the checker. It's possible there was an error or glitch on the application. To get no response at all would be highly unusual.
