Windscreen insurance cover
I have a vehicle where the windscreen sealant has failed and the windscreen is coming away around the edges In an attempt to do a temporary fix I tried to put sealant under and round the edge of the screen that has come away. In doing so I've caused a a crack a few inches long on the left side edge low down. It doesn't obscure my view but will fail the mot. Does anyone know if something like this situation would be covered under my windscreen insurance ?

You'd need to read the T&Cs of your policy but generally glass claims are outsourced to the likes of Autoglass and your insurer only find out about it at the end of the month when they get a list of policies claimed in that month and the value of the job on each.
It'd be harsh to classify it as malicious damage, ill advised maybe but not intentional, and so it'd be equally unusual for the glass company to turn away free money by declining the claim0 -
it wont fail the mot if it is where you say it is

Thanks for the replies. I guess it was 'my fault' but it would seem unfair not to cover it. I'll look at T&Cs as you suggest.0

As I say it's there's a line about 4" long out from the left hand edge looking from inside, in the lower left quarter of screen. It seems to be the inner laminate but not the top one. I thought the size would mean MOT failure.tedted said:it wont fail the mot if it is where you say it is0 -
I broke my wife’s windscreen trying to change a wiper when the arm slipped out of my hand and hit the glass. Autoglass came and fixed it no questions asked, just a sly grin when they realised what I’d done. Just paid the £100 excess. Same when I jammed some wood in my car and closed the tailgate causing it to hit the windscreen and break it. You’ll be fine.JahW said:Thanks for the replies. Thank you for that. Sounds like it'll be ok.Nobbie1967 said:

About half the claims insurers deal with are the fault of their insured and most cost a lot more than just a windscreen. Deliberate damage wont be covered and there can be some discussions around the most reckless of behaviours (eg drink driving) but just being an idiot generally is coveredJahW said:Thanks for the replies. Definitely qualify them 🙂. Thanks0
