Payout

I’ve been contacted to say I should have had a pay out from a policy I had with my mortgage that I took out years ago. I’ve not been with my ex for over 20 years now but as the policy is in joint names they won’t pay me my half until they find my ex which they can’t do and neither can I … how do I get my share please?

Sorry to be blunt, but you dont unless you find your ex.0

Try running his name through 192.com. If he has an uncommon name you may click lucky0

Tell them that you have no way of contacting him and ask them to split the policy in two and pay you half.
If you can't get anywhere, make a formal complaint so that a grown-up can look at the case and give you a proper answer.
It is not reasonable for them to withhold the entire proceeds forever if you can't find each other. (For all you know he is having exactly the same problem.)1 -
If they were in touch it wouldn't be reasonable for the policy to pay the two policyholders different amounts (except by only a penny), and it would not be reasonable to insist on paying into only a single account if the holders did not have a joint account
So I can't see they have much basis they have for delaying paying the one they are in touch with.
On second thoughts, maybe there is one circumstance.
Maybe if the policy was written in joint names and the other person has died the policy would hypothetically have paid out earlier on that death, then would be in limbo somewhere else than it is, and current value might have been different
Edit:
I did a Google search for endowment policy joint names separated, and looked at some of the results.
There does seem to some chance our instincts are wrong, and joint instructions needed, but some of the examples are people in communication and in dispute
